A psychiatric evaluation provides a comprehensive assessment of your mental health. Your provider gathers information through a diagnostic interview, screening questionnaires, and standardized assessments while reviewing your medical, personal, social, and family history, current and past symptoms, relevant life experiences, and other factors that may affect your mental health.
Your provider will evaluate the type, duration, and severity of symptoms to help establish an accurate diagnosis and develop an individualized treatment plan. Supportive psychotherapy is incorporated into your care to help you better understand your symptoms, develop coping strategies, and support your treatment goals.
A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation typically takes approximately 60 minutes. When appropriate, your provider may also recommend additional testing, such as laboratory work, to assess overall health and identify medical factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
